Often in adolescence, generalized tonic-clonic seizures (up to 50%) join. In women suffering from epilepsy, reproductive dysfunction is often noted. In this regard, it seems relevant to study the morphofunctional state of the ovaries in absence epilepsy.</p> <p><bold><italic>AIM: </italic></bold>Assessment of morphological and morphometric parameters of the ovaries in absence epilepsy.</p> <p><bold><italic>MATERIALS AND METODS:</italic></bold> Using histological and morphometric methods, the ovaries of Wistar and WAG/Rij rats (a genetic model of human absence epilepsy) were studied.</p> <p><bold><italic>RESULTS: </italic></bold>In WAG/Rij rats, destruction of the cortical and medulla of the ovary was found: the layer of granulosa cells surrounding the oocyte had a looser structure compared to the norm, destructive changes in the follicular epithelium and apoptotic death of granulosa cells were observed. Morphometric analysis showed that in WAG/Rij rats the weight of the ovaries was 2 times less than in Wistar rats: 37.30±0.93 mg versus 55.84±2.36 mg. The thickness of the epithelial layer was 7.81±0.25 μm, which is 26.2% less than in Wistar rats (<italic>p</italic> &lt;0.05). The ovarian follicles of WAG/Rij rats were irregular in shape, smaller in diameter and area, and the numerical density of all types of follicles was lower compared to Wistar rats, which indicates a violation of ovulation processes.</p> <p><bold><italic>CONCLUSION: </italic></bold>Structural and quantitative changes in the ovaries of WAG/Rij rats were observed in absence epilepsy, which indicates violations of the endocrine function of the ovaries and process of folliculogenesis.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><bold><italic>Обоснование. </italic></bold>Абсансная эпилепсия является одним из наиболее распространённых эпилептических синдромов, который чаще встречается у девочек. Нередко в подростковом возрасте присоединяются генерализованные тонико-клонические приступы (до 50%). У женщин, страдающих эпилепсией, часто отмечают нарушение репродуктивной функции. В этой связи актуальным представляется исследование морфофункционального состояния яичников при абсансной эпилепсии.</p> <p><bold><italic>Цель исследования</italic></bold> — оценка морфологических и морфометрических параметров яичников при абсансной эпилепсии.</p> <p><bold><italic>Материалы и методы. </italic></bold>С помощью гистологических и морфометрических методов проведено исследование яичников крыс линий Wistar и WAG/Rij (генетическая модель абсансной эпилепсии человека).</p> <p><bold><italic>Результаты.</italic></bold> У крыс линии WAG/Rij обнаружена деструкция коркового и мозгового веществ яичника: слой гранулёзных клеток, окружающих ооцит, имел более рыхлую структуру по сравнению с нормой, наблюдались деструктивные изменения фолликулярного эпителия и апоптотическая гибель гранулёзных клеток. Морфометрический анализ показал, что у крыс линии WAG/Rij вес яичников был в 2 раза меньше, чем у крыс линии Wistar: 37,30±0,93 мг против 55,84±2,36 мг. Толщина эпителиального слоя составила 7,81±0,25 мкм, что на 26,2% меньше, чем у крыс линии Wistar (<italic>p</italic> &lt;0,05).
